How to report abuse or copyright infringement, and how EdgeShield handles it

EdgeShield is a network service — a web application firewall, reverse proxy and DNS provider — not a hosting provider. We do not host, own or control the content of the websites that route through us; we only pass traffic through our edge to a customer's own origin server. EdgeShield cannot itself remove content it does not host.

How we handle abuse & DMCA reports

Because we are a proxy rather than the host, valid reports are handled as follows:

  • We forward the report to the site operator (domain owner) — the party who controls the content, is responsible for it, and is able to remove it. This is our primary action on any valid notice.
  • We do not disclose a customer's origin server, host or IP address to a private complainant. Protecting the origin is a core function of the Service. We disclose the responsible hosting provider or origin details only when compelled by valid legal process — a court order, subpoena, or lawful request from a competent authority — and only to the extent legally required.
  • Where we are legally required to act on our own service (for example, an order from a competent authority, or clear illegal content), we will take appropriate action, which may include suspending the affected domain on our network.

Forwarding a report to the operator is not an admission or endorsement of the report's claims; it is the standard process for a network intermediary and does not by itself remove the content, which only the operator (or, under legal process, its host) can do.

Copyright (DMCA) notices

If you believe content on a site protected by EdgeShield infringes your copyright, send a notice to the address below. To be actionable, a notice should include:

  1. Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to be infringed;
  2. The exact URL(s) of the allegedly infringing material;
  3. Your contact information (name, address, email, phone);
  4. A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law;
  5. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on their behalf;
  6. Your physical or electronic signature.

Notices about content we do not host and cannot remove will be forwarded to the site operator, who is able to act on them, as described above.

Illegal content & law-enforcement requests

Reports of clearly illegal content, and lawful requests from competent authorities, should also be sent to the address below. We respond to valid legal process and cooperate with law-enforcement authorities as required by applicable law.
